Professional Development
30 Days of Professional Development
In order to prepare our consultants for recruiting season in the fall, whether it be for an internship, full time position, or graduate school, we ran a 30 day professional development challenge. This gave students the resources to update their resume, explore careers, update their LinkedIn profile, write cover letters, and network. Consultants shared their progress and collaborated to make the most of the challenge.
John Wooden Pyramid of Success
One of the most important goals of Boilermaker Consulting Group was to create leaders. Throughout the summer we used the John Wooden Pyramid of Success to reflect on important aspects of leadership and better understand our strengths and where we have opportunities to grow.
Internship Purpose Statements
At the beginning of every consultants time with Boilermaker Consulting Group, they were required to write internship purpose statements in order to understand and track their goals. We had each consultant write one and then halfway through the summer they updated these purpose statements. This helped students make sure they were on track with reaching their goals as well as making the most of this summer internship.
What Makes You... YOU!
As a challenge to our consultants, we had them all make a 5-10 minute video about their story and what makes them who they are. We did this to help our consultants get to know each other more as well as to force them to do a personal reflection on how they have gotten to where they are as well where they wish to go in the future. Some examples are linked below.
Final Presentations
Like most internship programs, we had our consultants record a 5 to 10 minute final presentation reflecting on the work they have done this summer. This allowed us to track the progress of our students and help them reflect on what they have gained from the past summer.
